CIMO – Center for Research of fashion and Clothing researcher Ivana Čuljak participated with a paper Fashioning socialist class through fashion parlors: Žuži Jelinek, Zagreb (1945 -1960)  at a conference on high fashion called New Perspectives on Parisian Haute Couture, which took place from 24 to 25 March 2017 in Paris.

The aim of the conference was to re-examine the history of haute couture from 1850 to the present day.

The paper focuses on research into the influence of Parisian high fashion and Parisian couture designers, such as Christian Dior, on the work of the Žuži Jelinek salon. In the research, the influences are considered through the creative work, production, clientele and promotion of the salon of Žuža Jelinek in the socio-political context of socialism, and in the period from 1945 to 1960.

Due to the need for research, the Museum of the City of Zagreb ceded the private legacy to Žuža Jelinek.

The conference was organized by the Institut national d’histoire de l’art and the Institut Français de la Mode.

Key words: couturier, fashion parlours, haute couture, fashion mediation, socialist context
