Sonja Briski Uzelac, Fashion and Clothing - New Theories and New Practices: Cultural Aspects of Visuality, 2014

CIMO - Center for Research of Fashion and Clothing on Friday, November 7, 2014 starting at 7 pm in the Green Action (Frankopanska 1,10000 Zagreb) begins a series of seven public lectures under the common title Fashion and Clothing - New Theories" and new practices.

The series of lectures Fashion and Clothing - New Theories and New Practices will present CIMO projects that, in addition to cultural contribution, bring a shift from the traditional understanding of fashion as a system of power in the name of cultural extension to the view of clothing practices as inclusive cultural and economic needs. CIMO center is particularly focused on the problem of sustainable design and nurtures and supports individual theoretical and creative efforts that stand against consumerism and the phenomenon of banal fashion.

At the first meeting prof. Tonči Vladislavić, head of CIMO center, will present the vision and activities of the Center and current projects. After the introductory part, art theorist dr. Sc. Sonja Briski Uzelac will give a lecture on Cultural aspects of visuality. The lecture refers to the concept of cultural genesis of the concept of visuality and the transfer of its meaning to different cultural systems and spheres of life. Visual culture, as well as culture in general since its inception, is a form of mediation in the collective re / affirmation of human cognition of nature, which enabled his separation from the "sphere of instinct" and control of natural processes through the practice of symbolic representation.

Lectures Fashion and Clothing - New Theories and New Practices will be held during November every Friday at 19.00 in the Green Action, Zagreb.
