Patch in the spirit of slow fashion, photographer unknown, 2012
On Friday, November 14, 2014, starting at 7 pm in the Green Action space (Frankopanska 1,10000 Zagreb) prof. Tonči Vladislavić, CIMO - Center for Research of Fashion and Clothing, will hold a lecture as part of the Fashion and Clothing -‐ New Theory and New Practices program, entitled Slow Fashion System in the Function of Fashion Activism.Today, fashion, aided by the globalization process, is conquering quickly and powerfully. The powerful Fashion system, by influencing and producing, occupies, arranges and changes spaces of different cultural values. In response to this economic and cultural disaster, fashion activism is emerging by developing new theories and practices in the approach to fashion and clothing. Opposite the notorious Fast Fashion System (FFS) is the Slow Fashion System (SFS), which develops resistance strategies, explores its own traditional practices, and offers new forms of creativity. The Slow Fashion movement emerges as a creative and cultural challenge that, with its alternative character, can help affirm real and lasting values, in favor of social, cultural and economic balance, and thus effective sustainability.
The series of lectures Fashion and Clothing - New Theories and New Practices presents CIMO projects that, in addition to cultural contribution, bring a shift from the traditional understanding of fashion as a system of power in the name of cultural extension to the view of clothing practices as inclusive cultural and economic needs. CIMO center is particularly focused on the problem of sustainable design and nurtures and supports individual theoretical and creative efforts that stand against consumerism and the phenomenon of banal fashion.
Lectures Fashion and Clothing - New Theories and New Practices are held during November every Friday at 19.00 in the Green Action, Zagreb.
* The project is financially supported by the City Office for Education, Culture and Sports of the City of Zagreb, for 2012.
