The Center for Research of Fashion and Clothing - CIMO will hold a workshop as part of the 6th International Festival Day D, According to the personal archive: biographies of clothing in the former Military Hospital, Vlaška ulica 87, Zagreb, from 3 to 5 July 2015.
Fashion-garments circulate as consumer goods guided by fashion-economic policy that encourages an increase in consumption and constant variability of style, which trivializes the values of the garment itself and its importance, pushing these items into oblivion or even disappearance. With the acquisition from the free market into the private sphere, or by inheritance, the garment begins to build a complex meaningful life, inseparable from the biography of the owner. The workshop is based on storytelling method based on describing, telling and reading the material and symbolic level of the identity of the garment. Such an object has a double image, one that satisfies our choice, a utilitarian, physiological and psychological function, a symbolic level, as well as that other image directed towards society, towards others. The method of observing, analyzing and articulating narratives about a garment leads to the establishment of a multi-layered biography of fashion-garments that testifies to the subject identity and its overall history. The garment, rich in different, less visible layers, opens before us and others as a kind of document, establishes its own biography, which with this workshop we want to record, reconstruct, raise awareness and finally reflect on as part of personal and collective archives.
Students of all studies are welcome to the workshop, and applications are open until June 30 at info@dan-d.info.
